Trailbuilders

Today was something of an unusual volunteer day for the San Gabriel Mountains Trailbuilders in that we had enough college student and hiking club volunteers joining the day's effort that we broke up in to groups and spread out among a number of hiking trails within the Crystal Lake Recreation Area.

One group of volunteers formed around a certified chainsaw sawyer and two llama volunteers which headed up Big Cienega Trail to resume removing dead tree obstructions off of the trail, another group went to the Soldier Creek Trail to work on the tread and to remove obstructions while a third group was dropped off at the trailhead for Cedar Canyon Trail.

When the team on Cedar Canyon Trail was finished removing obstructions from the trail the team hiked up the road about a mile and a half up to the Visitor Center and either joined the team working on Soldier Creek or joined the team working on Half Knob Trail.

The amount of work that got accomplished today was phenomenal. All three of the lower trails were maintained from end to end while up on Big Cinega 18 dead tree obstructions were bucked up and removed, leaving about 22 remaining tree trunks that need to be bucked up on the next work day.
