Ground fires anywhere along the
Highway
and its associated parking areas, picknic areas, river waterways and canyons
is strictly forbidden. Gas stoves and
Coleman stoves are
permitted in areas that are clearly marked.
One of the major police enforcement efforts in the canyons and river
waterways along the highway is the policing of fires. Setting ground
fires anywhere in the area often results in arrests and criminal
prosecution, complete with financial punishments and towed vehicles.
In the Crystal Lake camping grounds, fires are permitted only within the
metal fire rings and free-standing BBQ boxes located at most camp sites.
The closest fire station that's operating is at the Rincon Fire Station
some 13 miles down the highway.
